We did a group comparison activity and read about the Tang and Song dynasties. We started a SPICE chart and will complete on Monday. We learned the APPARTS method of analyzing a historical document or primary source. We went through 15 slides in the PP and reviewed the Sand Road (Sahara) and Sea Roads (Indian and Mediterranean). We watched some video clips on the Inca, Maya, and Aztecs. We completed the second half of the trade map with the info about the Americas. We started discussing the Marco Polo article.
We continued the conversation on travel between empires. Specifically, we talked about Ibn Battuta, Marco Polo, and Xuanzang. All three wrote extensively about their experiences as foreigners in distant lands. We started a reading about Xuanzang and discussed his experiences in India. We also reviewed the steps and questions that students should take in analyzing a historical document.
QUIZLET PERIOD 3 VOCABULARY We inspected our clothes and talked about modern global trade. This Unit starts out with the interconnectedness of the world through trade routes. We went through notes on the Silk Road and watched a Mankind clip. Students received a blank map activity and had to label and identify the three main trade routes and how they moved goods, ideas, and people. Mankind Episode 3
