Students received reading quizzes for Chapter 4 and Chapter 5. They worked on them in class. Chapter 4 is due Monday, and Chapter 5 on Tuesday. Wednesday is when the World Religions Project is due. Thursday is the vocabulary quiz, and Friday is the Unit 2 Test.

Students took a Chapter 3 Reading Quiz. We completed the notes on Persia and Greece. We started a group activity on the role of women in classical civilizations. We introduced the world religions with a video that showed the spread of Ancient religions. Students had to group up and read 10 primary source documents from India, China, Rome, and Greece. They had to analyze and look for patterns. The goal is to write a thesis statement and supporting arguments. ![]()
Mrs. Pat Moore, Dean of Guidance, came into class and did a presentation on how to register for the AP Exam. Refer any questions on this to her. Based on your reading from last night, we went over the notes for Greece. I introduced the first project, which relates to Chapter 4, and is a World Religions Project. We had a great class discussion on historical analysis in looking at the Leonidas/Xerxes primary source documents. The goal was to show how our preconceived notions and ideas can color our analysis. We need to learn to step back and examine the words and how they fit into historical facts and events.
We started a new Unit today with notes on Ancient Persia and their eventual decline at the hands of the Greeks. Students were given a new vocabulary list. We shared our thesis statements with each other, took constructive criticism, and revised them. They were turned in. Students received a timeline assignment that they can start doing the dates on. They received a Chapter Reading Guide for Chapter 3. All students have a textbook reading tonight. The class assignment was to read two primary source documents, one by Leonidas of Sparta, and the other by Xerxes of Persia. They answered some general questions and we will talk about leadership tomorrow. UNIT 2 VOCABULARY WORDS
All students took the Unit 1 Test. Afterwards, students were given two primary source readings, one was the Old Testament and the other was a section of Hammurabi's Code. They had a guide to answer questions to differentiate the two. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: Write a thesis statement and then support it was a list of evidence. We took a vocabulary quiz on Period 1. Students were given a review sheet/practice test to get an understanding of the types of questions that will appear on the Unit Test. The Unit Test is tomorrow. It's 50 questions in 55 minutes. The questions come from the textbook readings, class assignments, extra readings, and discussions.

We went through the PowerPoint below and took notes on the River Valley Civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China. We talked about Hammurabi's Code, cuneiform, and Mohenjo Daro. We went over the Regions quiz from the day before. We went through our first set of notes with a PowerPoint about Human Beginnings. I gave students the answers to the Sorting activity between pastoral, foragers, and sedentary (agriculture) societies. Students took a map quiz on the continents, oceans, and regions. We had a class discussion on the Diamond article, which was collected for a grade and writing sample. We watched a 10 minute clip from Mankind Episode 1. Students were given a sorting activity where they had to place characteristics into the correct type of society (foraging, pastoral, or sedentary), and then use the 5 themes (SPICE) to further sort them.
