We did a bunch of notes on manorialism and feudalism, basically the change of lifestyle from living in cities to living on manors and small rural villages. People really needed safety and food so they made vassal contracts with nobles who owned land. In exchange for protection they gave loyalty and taxes to the landowners. Lesser nobles became Knights and exchanged military service for land. Lords built castles and large manor houses for protection, spurring new forms of warfare called siege weapons (like the catapult and trebuchet). This time period also saw the rise of the Roman Catholic Church and the power of the Pope. They filled the power vaccuum left by the Roman Empire falling. This power structure, a coming together of royal and religious power will dominate Europe for the next 800 years. Middle Ages Europe Flocabulary Rap - use "pinellas" as login and password
