We studied the D-Day invasion at Normandy and then the ending of World War Two after the dropping of two nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We continue our study of World War Two by using the video "WW2 from Space" as a guide. We stop and check in on two major events, the bombing of Pearl Harbor (which officially brought us into the war), and the D-Day invasion at Normandy (the largest amphibious landing in history). We did a timeline worksheet of the major events that caused World War 2. Students took a mini-quiz. Then, we started watching and discussing the video WW2 from Space, a fascinating look at the conflicts from an overview perspective, focusing on the BIG decisions and events that defined it. Students had a worksheet to follow that asked higher level thinking questions. Flocabulary - World War Two
We learned about the Russian Revolution by doing a reading and taking a quiz. We did notes on the Interwar years. Then, we talked and watched a video about how Hitler was able to rise and take power in Germany. We also discussed Stalin and Mussolini.
We went over the worksheet from the World War 1 packet and reviewed the war from all perspectives. We completed a journal on the back of the mini-quiz attached below. We watched a short video on Communism and took a quiz. Students turned this in for a grade. BrainPop - Communism - (use "leecs" as both password and login)
When you complete the online packet activity please click the video below and start watching the videos in the playlist. The first couple are from the History Channel and are short topical videos about a specific aspect of the war. The last 10 video clips are all regarding the types of trench warfare and the brutality of the first "modern war".
