After WW2, The USSR and the United States were the worlds only remaining superpowers. They were opposites, with the U.S. touting democracy, freedom, and capitalism, and the USSR trying to spread Communism and socialism. The next 45 years will be known as the Cold War, and will have battlefields all over the globe, although the two countries never went to war against each other. This was a war for the minds of the people of the world and included an arms race, space race, Korean War, Berlin Wall, Vietnam War, Afghanistan War, and even conflict in sports. Ultimately, Communism failed and in 1991 the Soviet Union broke up.
